About these Images

Photo: Robert Allison Taking in the Sights in New YorkWhen I was 10, my neighbour and his wife bought me a camera to take on a school trip to Ottawa. I took that camera, and anything that came into view, got snapped at. I think I took eight rolls of film on a one week trip. Other children on the trip, who happened to have a camera, shot one roll of film.

I came back to Toronto, and had the film developed. I must have had half a dozen pictures in focus and I was not disappointed, far from it, I decided then and there that to get one picture required shooting endless amounts of film.

Over the years, shooting photographs gave me a way of escaping day to day life. This has been an on and off means of escape. Sometimes I am very excited about picking up the camera and shooting whatever catches my eyes, and at other times, the camera equipment sits in the corner.

Recently, I was down at Artword Theatre and to my complete surprise, there on the gallery walls was a selection of my photographs, part of the Artword Gallery Collection. And so I am excited again, and decided to share some of the images I have taken over the years through this website.

The above paragraphs were my thoughts back on July 22, 2003.

In July 2006 Israel bombed Lebanon. Or to be fair, Hezbollah kidnapped a couple of Israel soldiers, and Isreal set about sending a message which included the bombing of Lebanon. Stephen Harper, a temporary Canadian mistake, called Israel's response "measured". I woke up and started shooting film again.

I had moved to a photo content management system, until problems on the server wiped out months of hard work, data collection. So I am returning to static pages until I figure out a better system for managing the photographs and the data that accompanies them. Please use the menu at the side to access the photos.
