This is a record of Labour Day Parade 2006 in Toronto. These images are also part of my continuing efforts to record, and comment on today's social order, and the resistance to a world gone mad.
This was the first time I had every attended a labour day parade. I was overcome with a sense of great pride as I realized that the people and institutions in this parade, and those who were there before, have played a large role in our history, our lives and hopefully, in the awakening.
The images start at the beginning of the parade and follow the parade to the Dufferin Gates. They then loop back through the parade to the end. At the end there was nothing left but the unionized street cleaners, ensuring our streets remain clean, and to the street cleaners I say, "Sorry I ran out of film". And to my site visitor, even though I ran out of film, it wasn't until I shot 160 images. As a result, since I lack the ability to edit my own work, there are 100+ photographs in this section.
