Toronto

This city, you either got to love it or hate, and in some cases, just go with the flow. This page just tells you about it as I see it.

Municipal Elections

July 29, 2006 - Stop the Bombing Rally

Wow, never thought I would see myself out in a demonstration, but there I was - two weeks in a row. During the second week, I took my camera to record the demonstration. Here are some of the pictures from the "Stop the Bombing Rally".

Putting the Garbage Out

So I put my garbage out one Wednesday, 5:45 pm on Queen Street. Been doing this for a couple of years now. Sometimes I put the garbage out when I get home, sometimes I put it out after I have my evening nap. Sometimes I get it to the curb five minutes before pickup.

Well, as this relates to Wednesday at 5:45, must say I was shocked a couple of weeks later when I answer my buzzer and find myself standing in front of the "Garbage Police", never knew there was such a thing until this guy hands me a ticket for $125.00. Tells me I put my garbage out too early, oh where's George when you need him. Call my local councillor, Pam McConnell and she can't do anything about it. She just okays the laws. How she okayed this one, I'll have to wait until we go to the polls. Some people, my grandmother included, like Pam - today I don't.

Turns out there's a 25 page document setting out the by-laws of garbage disposal. Turns out there's a schedule, but you would be hard pressed to have city hall provide you with same. Turns out I pay the ticket, grudgingly! Turns out I am the hero in my building 'cause for the tidy sum of $125.00 I get to warn them all not to put their garbage out at such and such a time or else. - Sometimes this city suck, or at least the lawmakers.
