America

The great self-proclaimed leader/ensurer of democracy throughout the world, gets me goin'. When I speak of America, I speak of the decision-makers, not the citizens, for it is, like Canada, a very small minority that believes enough in the system to participate. It is even a smaller number that control and manipulate the system to their own ends. This is what I learned in University. This is what I saw in practise.

Since Bush arrived on the scene; and let's not blame all this on Bush - it's probably a combination of the growth of Globalization; America being the beckon of capitalism, with Bush just being the current mascot - the mainstream American media has fallen silent. During this period of time I have been most thankful that in Canada we have the CBC, TVO and The Toronto Star. This group of rather free speaking media has introduced me to a wonderful phenomena, namely the voices of resistance in the USA to the current Administration. This page is devoted to these voices.

The following is a list of links to sites where alternative views to the American mainstream media can be found. I truly hope that one day the American mainstream will include these alternative views.

Cindy Sheehan and The Bring Them Home Now Tour site is full of information related to efforts to bring home the troops from Iraq.

It is so refreshing to know that there is a large, and growing number of Americans, who have come to protest this war that Canada, and a majority of the rest of the world, refused to participate in.

Great admiration for Michael Moore and the work he has done to open a number of discussions. In particular, am immensely intrigued with his style of documentary where it has entered popular culture. Sometimes lopsided, but no more so than the reporting of Fox or CNN.
